Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats posted a 26-24, 16-25, 25-20 win over St. Paul High’s Indians to give Wildcat fans their money’s worth Tuesday in Moran.
The Wildcats lost to visiting Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans 25-21, 25-12. The Lady Titans beat St. Paul 25-18, 25-9 to go 4-3 on the season.
“I was very pleased with our coverage during the St. Paul match,” said Lindsay Ermel, Marmaton Valley head coach. “We knew they would come out tipping on us and the girls adjusted well to that.”
Against St. Paul, Kaitlyn Ensminger had eight kills and four service aces. Kailey Boyd downed four kills and had seven digs plus served up four aces. Molly McEwan was credited with eight set assists and Lydia Lance had five assists and three service aces.
“The girls were much more aggressive at the net which is what I told them they had to be,” Ermel said. “That’s where SCC beat us. Our girls found the holes against St. Paul.”
In the SCCH match, Marmaton Valley got five kills and four digs from Boyd. Ensminger served four aces. McEwan had eight set assists and Lance had five assists. Ensminger and Tapanga Turner each had two blocks at the net. Kacie Shadden added three ace serves and four digs.

“As a team we served 91 percent on the evening, which was a big improvement from a week ago. We had a total of 19 aces,” said Jeff True, Lady Titan head coach.
“We are improving but still have a lot of work to do to get where we need to be.”
Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs were on the road Tuesday and notched two victories. They beat Cherryvale 25-15, 24-26, 27-26 and downed host Altoona-Midway 25-16, 25-11.
